Narcissistic Personality Disorder Technique of Intervention

Therapists everywhere are experiencing a dramatic increase in clients presenting for individuals and couples psychotherapy who fit the diagnostic criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder. These clients present with a powerful defensive structure specifically designed to protect them from vulnerability in relationship with self and other. Since this is operative in the transference, clinicians typically experience great difficulty gaining access and intervening therapeutically.

Assessment criteria and treatment considerations will be presented for work with narcissistic individuals and couples. This seminar will demonstrate a style and technique of intervention designed to minimize ongoing mobilization of defense and maximize therapeutic effect.
